Previously I wrote about the newly released high resolution images of the Transformers designs for the upcoming movie. I really liked the Ironhide model most of all and decided to make a Wallpaper out of it. However, ever since I am running Windows Vista on this laptop, I am also a bit attached to the native wallpapers included with the OS. So I simply combined them both without much adjustment. The Transformer designs already came in .PNG format. I know it looks a bit out of place but the shadow helps a bit. Either way, I think it’s a cool combination. If you like it too, just download it by clicking on the sample thumbnail below.

Please note that the image is in its original resolution of 1920×1220. For lower resolutions, you will have to scale it down on your own.

First, have a look at my image gallery. Do you see those robot shapes? These are high resolution images of the new Transformers as they will be seen in the upcoming live action movie. To view an image in its original size, simply click on the thumbnail. When the picture loads note that you can click on it again. It will then load the original size on a blank page.

Do they look ugly? Most definitely.

Have they lost the charm of the old, recognizable cartoon Transformers? Perhaps.

Wherever these pictures are shown now, people moan and complain about their jumbled and messy looks. Ugly, ugly, ugly. Lots crying going on about it, these days.

fattimus.jpgHowever, I believe the idea here was to make the robots look “realistic”. While realism in such a movie is far from applicable, it should still make a little bit of sense how a robot, that can run, walk, punch, balance and gesture with high motor skills, will transform into a fighter jet and take off into the skies. Yes, again, I know this isn’t realistic to begin with. Nevertheless, how are you going to have them transform and take a probable shape in each stage?

Most of the Decepticons transform into airborne vehicles. Streamlined forms are mandatory, here. Aerodynamics and streamlinging set very limited constraints on the shape of the humanoid robot form. That’s how you get this “jumbled mess” which the Decepticons depict on the images.

In order for a car to drive, however, all you need is an engine and wheels. This leaves far more options for robot shape design. Thus, the Autobot models all look far more discernible.

Lastly you have to consider that cheap car manufacturer advertisement, as seen for various cars these days, does not set any standards for how cars or any other vehicle can or should transform and how they look like in their transformed shape. If you think that Citroen or Opel have set the leading example of live action transforming, then you are going into this movie with the wrong expectations. This isn’t another cartoon version of Transformers: The Movie. Where DO you put the side mirrors? Where DO you put the engine? Where DO you place the huge chassy of a giant truck or the body of an entire fighter jet? It’s no longer enough to simply make the transformation animation so fast and blurry that nobody can see the ugly details.

And you didn’t really expect Megatron to have a face with a mouth like a human, did you? Unless he can make his face melt in order to allow lip movement, that would have been a bit silly, right?

I vote for the lamenting to end. The fans should appreciate the fact that someone put some thought into it instead of just slapping something together to make a few stubborn hardcore Transformers cartoon series fans happy.

Nevertheless, do not be troubled. Rejoice! I am an informative guy and for educational purposes and also to make my point as clear as possible, I show you proof. The video below will detail precisely how anatomically correct transformation should work. It doesn’t get more realistic than this:

Wow. Quite an active day for me. *knock on wood*

A bit further down I wrote about the In-Sect. I went ahead and dug even further down this awesome site and found this. An article about a comic book series focused around super heroes located and stemming from the middle east. What always irks me about story lines on the middle east, is that it rarely includes Israel.

I was born in Germany and most of my family is English. However, for quite some time now, I have been living in Israel. So … where are the Israeli super heroes? Since nobody is likely to draw any and since I can’t even draw a straight line, I’ve decided to take Severin into that direction, thus giving me some good pointers to continue the story.

Next post - a new Severin episode!

One of the main reasons for why I sometimes freeze my blogging activities and take a long time to get back into the loop, is a lack of creativity. Once more, cleaning out my bookmarks helped me stumble over an a-lister’s site that usually has the answers for all such problems.

Abiding by these few rules on how to keep your creativity going, should help me never to get lazy again. Have a look at it and if you’re a blogger, you may want to adhere to these few points, as well.

Here’s a brief excerpt of the article:

1. Evolution

When new ideas come as a result of building upon previous ones. This is very much a step by step process where at each step the progression in ideas very small but where over time it is significant.

A great blog related example of this has been the evolution of most blogging platforms, like WordPress which periodically updates it’s features - building each time on what they previously had.

Most bloggers enter into this evolutionary process every day with their blogging - taking previously expressed ideas (both their own and those of others) and extending them.

A good question to ask yourself when entering into this evolutionary process is - ‘how could I improve (insert thing to evolve here)….?’

Evolution isn’t the ’sexiest’ of the methods that I’ll talk about here - but it’s probably the most common way of creating new ideas.

Cheers, Mr. Problogger!

The internet has a lot to offer besides porn and bittorrent streams. Once in a while I stumble over a good site and find it interesting enough to bookmark or even link to it on my blog. What happens all too often, however, is that despite initial interest and fascination, the site falls back into oblivion - forgotten and never visited again. When cleaning out bookmarks or trimming the blogroll, I then end up deleting 70 percent of the old stuff, suddenly no longer finding it interesting. What happened today wasn’t one of those cases, though. Surely I was tidying up my bookmarks and and trimming the roll, but as I was doing so I clicked on the site of one of my readers just out of sheer interest. I have been there before and I liked what I saw. Today, however, I realized how I had failed to truly dig into the content of this blog.

I’m talking about The In-Sect. You just have to go have a look at that place. It’s packed with creative and artistic content, covering a lot of categories and styles. A quick whois showed that its run from within Germany, too! Good stuff. I thought no German blog would ever offer something good to an international forum. Look at me, after all.To get an idea of what you can expect at the In-Sect, let me give you a list of some things. I like lists.

  • Great cartoon and illustrative art
  • Great artist reviews
  • Interesting web anecdotes
  • Nice and clean writing
  • An article about MacGyver
  • And amongst many other things my absolute favorite:

The long wait has an end!

Head over there and have a look around.
