Part 1 - The Introduction

Hi all,

I’m the Cytizen and Footron.net serves as the container for all things footronic, produced by me. While you will find that my main interest lies with graphic novels and technology, my writing ambitions are seldomly limited to just one thing.

Footron’s name consists of two parts which, by themselves, explain the very nature of this site. Foo is a metasyntactical variable - a “filler word” for any given variable. Foo, just like “blah” or similiar words, therefore stands for “anything”. The -tron suffix gives this concept personality. I don’t intend to confuse readers with unpredictable content, though. Don’t mistake the metasyntactical nature of this domain for indecision. Instead interpret it as the creative outlet of someone with an interest in all things geek.

While not intending to label myself or my audience, a lot of our kind share a common interest - the drive to learn about and marvel at the amazing things human creativity can produce. Technology and art. Some may argue that there is hardly a difference between them. And as such I welcome you to this weblog of geekery - a place to read about technology, super heroes and me.

Part 2 - But why, Mr. Cytizen?

Why? Because I’m a user. A user writing about technology and comics. Imagine going to a store to buy … a modem. You catch an employee, drag him over to the isle with all the modems and tell them to advise you on the right choice out of the modems offered from 10 different manufacturers. Will the employee always give you the right advice or will he just try to sell you something for his commissions? Can you trust the opinion of a disgruntled employee? Don’t you feel far more comfortable when getting an opinion from another user? Imagine you ditched the employee and saw another customer browsing the isles. He sees you in your dillema and tells you not to choose Vlink because Fretgear worked much better for him for the last 3 years. Now thats a first hand experience opinion. Worth more than any half-trained, underpaid employee can provide for you.
